Integra Plus Risks, Warnings, and Complications

Taking Integra Plus can lead to serious adverse effects in some people. Some of the risks of taking this prescription multivitamin and iron supplement include:

  • CONTRAINDICATIONS: People with a known hypersensitivity to any of the active or inactive ingredients in Integra Plus should not take this prescription dietary supplement. It is also contraindicated in people with iron overload disorders such as hemosiderosis and hemochromatosis. In addition, people with hemolytic anemias and pernicious anemia should not take Integra Plus. This supplement contains folic acid, which can obscure pernicious anemia (mask the signs and symptoms). Folic acid alone is not the proper treatment for pernicious anemia and other megaloblastic anemias—these conditions need to be treated with both folic acid and vitamin B12 supplementation together. Taking folic acid alone can lead to hematological remission while the neurological manifestations remain progressive.

  • ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE: An accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of deadly poisoning in children under 6. Keep iron supplement tablets and all medications safely out of reach of children. Seek immediate medical help if you suspect a child has overdosed on iron tablets.

Precautions Before Starting Integra Plus

Tell your healthcare provider if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Integra Plus, any of the active or inactive ingredients in Integra Plus capsules, other iron supplements, or any other drugs. Your pharmacy can give you a list of ingredients.

Give your doctor and pharmacist a complete list of your medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products. This can help avoid possible drug interactions.

Give your doctor a complete medical history. Integra Plus may not be safe for people with certain medical conditions, such as iron overload disorders (hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis) and hemolytic anemias. It may be the improper therapy for megaloblastic anemias.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, could be pregnant, are planning a pregnancy, or are breast-feeding.

Precautions During Use of Integra Plus

Keep all your healthcare appointments while taking Integra Plus. Your doctor may order certain lab tests to check your iron levels and monitor your response to treatment.

Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Integra Plus.

Integra Plus Drug Interactions

Interactions between Integra Plus and other medications can affect how they work and/or increase the risk of severe adverse reactions.

Give your doctor or pharmacist a complete list of your medications, including prescription drugs, OTC (non-prescription) medications, dietary supplements, and herbal remedies. Also, tell your healthcare professionals if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use recreational drugs because some of these substances can cause serious health complications when used with dietary supplements and prescription medications.
