Albuterol and Ipratropium Tips from Pharmacists

  • Read the instructions carefully and make sure you use the inhaler and nebulizer correctly. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you don’t understand how to use the spray or nebulizer solution.

  • Remove the vial of the inhalation solution from the foil pouch only when you’re ready to use it.

  • Clean your nebulizer chamber and other parts of the machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Unclean nebulizers can be a source of lung infections.

  • Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new medications while on treatment with albuterol and ipratropium for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Drug interactions can increase the risk of serious side effects.

  • Continue using ipratropium and albuterol as prescribed. Do not stop the medicine without talking to your doctor, as this could lead to worsening COPD symptoms.

  • Do not use albuterol and ipratropium beyond the expiration date.
