How To Use Isotretinoin (Absorica)

Isotretinoin comes in the form of a capsule to take by mouth. You can take this medicine with or without food. However, make sure you swallow the isotretinoin capsule with a full glass of water to lower the risk of esophageal irritation. Do not cut, crush, or chew the capsules.

Read the prescription label carefully and take isotretinoin exactly as prescribed. Your doctor may adjust your dose of isotretinoin based on your response and side effects. Follow these dosing instructions carefully. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency without your doctor’s approval.

It may take several weeks for you to see an improvement in your acne. Your acne may get worse when you first start treatment. However, it will continue to improve after you finish the recommended isotretinoin therapy.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of isotretinoin, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store isotretinoin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused and expired isotretinoin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw isotretinoin in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
