Ivermectin (Stromectol) Tips from Pharmacists
Take ivermectin tablets on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Taking this medication with food can affect how well it works.
Take antibiotics or other related drugs as prescribed by your doctor along with ivermectin, to treat your condition.
Keep all your medical and lab appointments after ivermectin therapy. Your healthcare provider will ask for stool exams to check for parasitic worms.
Ivermectin does not kill the adult worms of onchocerciasis (river blindness). You may need to take additional doses every 3, 6, or 12 months. Adult worms can survive in the human body for 10-15 years.
If you take a blood thinner such as warfarin, talk to your doctor about how often you should check your INR levels and whether your warfarin dose needs to be adjusted.
