Ivermectin (Stromectol) Side Effects
Common side effects of ivermectin are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if they are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Gastrointestinal symptoms such as stomach pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite
- Dizziness
- Weakness
- Chest discomfort
- Uncontrolled shaking
If you are taking ivermectin to treat onchocerciasis, you may also experience the following side effects. Tell your doctor if they are severe or persistent.
- Joint pain or joint swelling
- Swelling of the face, eyes, arms, hands, lower legs, ankles, or feet
- Swollen or painful glands in the neck, armpits, or groin
- Fever
- Fast heartbeat
- Pain, redness, swelling, tearing, or abnormal sensations in the eyes
Some of the side effects of ivermectin are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you develop:
- Signs and symptoms of allergic reactions (skin rash, hives, itching, blistering, or peeling)
- Head and neck pain, difficulty standing or walking, drowsiness, disorientation, confusion, or loss of consciousness

Ivermectin (Stromectol) Overdose: In case of an overdose of ivermectin, call your doctor immediately or call the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has collapsed, stopped breathing, had a seizure, or is not responsive, call 911. Symptoms of an overdose may include skin rash, hives, headache, weakness, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, tingling in the hands and feet, seizures, poor coordination, and swelling in the face or limbs.
