How should I take Klonopin (clonazepam)?

Klonopin comes in a regular tablet and an orally disintegrating tablet that dissolves rapidly in the mouth. The tablet is usually taken 1-3 times a day. It can be taken with or without food. Take the regular tablet with a glass of water. If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet, remove it from the foil only when ready to take your medication. Handle the tablet with dry hands and place it on your tongue. After it dissolves, swallow it with saliva or water.

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Klonopin dosage and frequency. Do not take more or less Klonopin or take it more or less frequently than prescribed. 

Do not stop Klonopin without talking to your healthcare professional first. Klonopin may help control your condition but will not cure it. Continue taking your medication even if you feel well. If you stop taking Klonopin abruptly, it can lead to withdrawal symptoms, including new or worsening seizures, hallucinations, uncontrolled shaking, sweating, changes in behavior, stomach cramps, muscle cramps, anxiety, and sleep problems. If you wish to stop Klonopin, your doctor will gradually reduce the dose and ensure proper medical care is provided.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Klonopin, take your medication as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Klonopin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
