Lansoprazole Tips from Pharmacists

  • Lansoprazole takes 1-4 days to kick in. Antacids can provide more immediate relief of acid reflux. You can take antacids and lansoprazole together.

  • You should not take non-prescription (OTC) lansoprazole for more than 14 days. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse. Do not take an OTC lansoprazole 14-day treatment more frequently than every 4 months for heartburn relief.

  • Do not crush, split, or chew the lansoprazole capsule or tablet. If you have trouble swallowing capsules, you can open the capsule and sprinkle the granules on some applesauce or mix it with some juice. Consume the mixture immediately. Do not store for later use.
