How should I use latanoprost (Xalatan)?

You should place latanoprost eye drops in each eye with an eye dropper. The dose is usually one drop once a day in the evening. 

To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip with your hands or anything else, and do not let it touch your eye. Pull your lower eyelid down and place the eye drop in the inside corner of your eye. Close your eye and gently press on the lower lid for a couple of minutes to keep the medication in the eye. Use a clean tissue to wipe off any extra liquid.

Contact lens wearers should take out their contacts before applying latanoprost and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. If using other eye drops, allow 5 minutes between different medications.

Read the prescription label carefully and follow your doctor’s dosing instructions to use latanoprost correctly. Do not use more or less of this medicine or use it more or less often than advised by your doctor. Using latanoprost eye drops more often can make the medicine less effective.

Latanoprost will help lower elevated IOP and control glaucoma but will not cure the condition. Continue using the eye drops even if you don’t have any symptoms. It is not possible to tell if your high pressure is decreasing at home. Continue using the eye drops even if you don’t notice a change in your symptoms. Missed dose: If you forget your latanoprost dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next scheduled dose at the regular time. Do not double up on the dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store latanoprost (Xalatan) in the refrigerator until ready to use it. Once you open the bottle, you can store it at room temperature or in the fridge. Throw away the bottle six weeks after opening it. You can store Xelpros either at room temperature or in the refrigerator, which is good until the date stamped on the bottle by the manufacturer.
