Uses

What is latanoprost (Xalatan) used for?

Latanoprost is used to treat open-angle glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease in which there is increased intraocular pressure (IOP). The high pressure can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss over the years if left untreated. Latanoprost eye drops are also used to treat ocular hypertension, a condition in which the pressure inside the eye increases.

There may be other uses of latanoprost - your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

How does latanoprost (Xalatan) work?

Latanoprost works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor (a natural eye fluid) and thereby decreasing intraocular pressure.

What are latanoprost (Xalatan) doses?

Latanoprost comes in the form of eye drops. The usual dose is one drop of the ophthalmic solution applied to the affected eye once a day in the evening.
