How should I take Lexapro (escitalopram)?

Take Lexapro as directed by your healthcare professional. This medicine is to be taken orally (by mouth) with water, with or without food. You can take your medication at any time of the day, morning or evening. To make it easier to remember to take Lexapro, take it at around the same time every day. 

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Lexapro dosage and frequency. Do not take more or less Lexapro or take it more or less frequently than prescribed. Do not stop taking Lexapro without talking to your healthcare professional first. Stopping Lexapro abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, irritability, dizziness, headache, nightmares, and tingling sensations in the skin.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Lexapro, take your medication as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Lexapro at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep Lexapro out of reach of children and pets.
