What are Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) side effects?

The most common side effects of Lipitor include: 

• Muscle ache
• Stuffy or runny nose
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Indigestion
• Joint pain

These Lipitor side effects do not usually require medical attention; however, you should report them to your prescribing physician if they do not get better over time and are bothersome.

Some less common side effects of Lipitor are more serious. Therefore, you should inform your doctor without delay about the following side effects:

• Changes in urination 
• Severe muscle weakness
• Fever
• A red, blistering, peeling skin rash
• Allergic reactions with skin rash, hives, swelling of the face or hands, or swelling in the mouth or throat
• Chest tightness or trouble breathing
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Extreme fatigue, loss of appetite
• Dark urine, pale stools, nausea, vomiting, stomachache (in the upper right part of the stomach), yellowing of the skin or eyes (these could be signs of liver injury)

The above list may not include all the potential side effects of Lipitor. Speak to your doctor if you have severe side effects or if your side effects do not improve over time. You can also report unusual Lipitor side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Lipitor Overdose: If you take one extra Lipitor dose by mistake, it is unlikely to harm you. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you’ve taken more than one extra dose.
