“I wish to have a unicorn birthday party,” a creative wish stemming from the imagination of wish kid Melissa, age 5, who is working through a heart transplant. Melissa is an exuberant young girl who loves all things unicorns and glitter. Melissa has spent every birthday (ages 1-4) in the hospital and has never had a chance to celebrate with her friends and family. Knowing that she would be home for her 5th birthday, she wanted to make it special.

Make-A-Wish stepped in to make her unicorn birthday come true. After meeting with Wish Granters, it was clear what Melissa’s one true wish was: to have a unicorn birthday party! Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Florida was proud to start working to make her wish come true.

After months of planning, the date finally came, and Melissa was on her way to her birthday party venue. Melissa and her family were able to enjoy a night of food, cake, and dancing. They spent the night enjoying the music and documenting the moment through pictures. One of Melissa’s favorite things was the unicorn photo frame prop!

A wish brings healing beyond medicine. 97% of adult former wish kids report improved mental and emotional health as a result of their wish experience. Make-A-Wish was able to bring lots of smiles and joy to Melissa and her family. However, there are still hundreds of kids just like her waiting for the same.
