How To Use Meclizine

To prevent motion sickness, a meclizine tablet should be taken 1 hour before travel. You may need to take a dose every 24 hours. 

For vertigo caused by a vestibular (inner ear) condition, take meclizine as directed by your health care professional. 

Read the prescription label or package label carefully and use meclizine as instructed. Do not use more or less of this medication.

Swallow the oral tablet whole with water. Chew the chewable tablet of meclizine before swallowing it (do not swallow it whole).

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of meclizine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store meclizine at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container that it came in. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications carefully out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired meclizine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw meclizine in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded meclizine is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
