Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (Provera) tips from pharmacists

  • Make sure you understand how often and when to take medroxyprogesterone. The dosing of this medicine depends on the condition you are treating. Your doctor might ask you to start medroxyprogesterone on a specific day of the month and take it only on certain days.

  • Take medroxyprogesterone at around the same time on scheduled days. This will help you remember to take it.

  • You can take medroxyprogesterone with or without food. If you experience nausea as a side effect, taking this medication with food might help.

  • If you take medroxyprogesterone for irregular menstrual periods, you should get your period after only a few days of stopping the medicine. Contact your doctor if you don’t get your period within 7 days. If you’ve been sexually active, you should do a pregnancy test.
