Meloxicam Uses

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat pain, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to treat juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children 2 years of age and older.

There may be other uses of meloxicam—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further drug information.

Meloxicam Mechanism of Action

Meloxicam blocks the formation of prostaglandins in the body, which are natural substances that cause fever, pain, and inflammation.

Meloxicam Doses

Meloxicam is available as 7.5 mg and 15 mg tablets; 5 mg and 10 mg capsules; and 7.5 mg/5 mL oral suspension.

The usual starting dose of meloxicam in adults is 7.5 mg once a day to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The dose may be increased to 15 mg once a day. The dose of meloxicam in children is based on the child’s body weight.
