Mesalamine (Lialda) Tips from Pharmacists
Keep all your medical and laboratory appointments while on mesalamine. Your healthcare provider may want to see how the medicine is working and monitor you for adverse effects.
Mesalamine can increase your risk of kidney stone formation. Drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated while on this drug.
Taking Lialda (mesalamine) can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure and wear sunscreen and protective clothing to prevent sunburn.
Call your doctor immediately if you develop stomach pain, cramps, bloody diarrhea, fever, headache, or rash. This may be acute intolerance syndrome and can resemble worsening ulcerative colitis.
Tell all your doctors and laboratory personnel you are taking Lialda tablets (mesalamine). This medicine can interfere with the results of some tests.
