How should I take Methylprednisolone?
Methylprednisolone comes in the form of a tablet to be taken by mouth with water. Taking methylprednisolone with food or milk can reduce the side effect of an upset stomach.
Use this medication exactly as directed by your doctor and pharmacist. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not use more or less of this medication than instructed.
Do not stop using methylprednisolone suddenly. Stopping methylprednisolone can lead to upset stomach, loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting, fever, drowsiness, headache, confusion, and joint and muscle pain.
If you are on a large methylprednisolone dose or long-term maintenance therapy, your doctor will guide you on gradual dose reduction (they will give you lower doses for a period of time before stopping methylprednisolone).
Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of methylprednisolone, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Storage: Store methylprednisolone at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused methylprednisolone. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
