Metoclopramide Tips from Pharmacists
If you are taking the oral solution of metoclopramide, make sure you measure the dose accurately with a dose-measuring syringe, dropper, or spoon. Do not use a household spoon.
Open the foil pack of the orally disintegrating tablet with dry hands just before you take the medicine. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve. Do not crush or chew it.
Metoclopramide can cause drowsiness and dizziness as side effects. Do not drive or do anything that requires your full focus until you know how this medicine affects you.
Metoclopramide should only be used for up to 12 weeks. Taking this medication for more than 12 weeks increases your risk of tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled muscle movements).
If you experience abnormal, uncontrollable, or repetitive movements of the eyes, tongue, face, arm, or legs, stop taking metoclopramide and get in touch with your doctor right away These could be symptoms of tardive dyskinesia, which can be irreversible.
