Side Effects
Metoclopramide (Reglan) Side Effects
Possible side effects of metoclopramide are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away in a few days.
- Drowsiness
- Excessive tiredness
- Weakness
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Abnormally enlarged or tender breasts or discharge
- Irregular menstrual periods
- Decreased sexual ability
- Increase in urinary frequency
Some of the adverse events related to metoclopramide can be more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms:
- Hypertension
- Uncontrollable and involuntary movements of muscles, especially lip-smacking, mouth puckering, chewing, frowning, scowling, sticking out your tongue, blinking, or shaking in your arms or legs
- Tightening of the muscles, particularly in the jaw or neck or chest
- Speech difficulties
- Depression or anxiety
- Suicidal thoughts
- Fever
- Severe confusion
- Agitation
- Fast, irregular or slow heartbeat
- Sweating
- Restlessness
- Nervousness or jitteriness
- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
- Pacing
- Foot tapping
- Difficulty in keeping balance
- Hives
- Rash
- Swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, mouth, throat, arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- Sudden increase in weight
- Breathing or swallowing difficulties
- High-pitched sounds while breathing
- Visual difficulties

Metoclopramide Overdose: In case of an overdose of metoclopramide, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Signs and symptoms of a metoclopramide overdose may include confusion, drowsiness, seizures, uncontrollable movements, lack of energy, bluish coloring of the skin, headache, and shortness of breath.
