How To Use Midodrine

Take midodrine three times a day as prescribed, for example, in the morning, at midday, and before the evening meal. Make sure there are at least 3 hours between doses. Do not take the last dose after 6 pm or if there are less than 4 hours before bedtime. 

Only take midodrine during the daytime hours when you will be upright. Do not take it if you will need to be supine (lying down) for any period of time. Taking midodrine while supine can lead to dangerously high blood pressure. Talk to your doctor about whether you need to raise the head of your bed.

Read the prescription label carefully and take your medication regularly exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose or dosage frequency unless your doctor tells you.

Keep all your medical and laboratory appointments while on midodrine. Tell your doctor how you feel on this medicine. In particular, tell your doctor if you don’t have a significant improvement in your symptoms after starting midodrine.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of midodrine, take it as soon as you remember as long as there are at least 4 hours until bedtime. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store at room temperature between 15-30° C or 59-86° F away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused midodrine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot consume them. Do not flush midodrine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded midodrine is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
