Midodrine Tips from Pharmacists

  • Take midodrine only during the daytime hours when you will be upright. Do not take it if you will be lying flat on your back for any period of time.

  • Take the last dose of midodrine in the late afternoon (before 6 pm). Do not take midodrine after your evening meal or less than 4 hours before bedtime.

  • Tell your health care professional if you develop symptoms of increasing blood pressure, such as a fast heart rate, pounding in the ears, blurred vision, headache, or severe dizziness.

  • Check your blood pressure regularly at home in the lying down, sitting, and standing position. Keep a log and take it to your doctor’s appointments.

  • Tell your doctor how midodrine affects your ability to do daily activities.

  • Read the labels of all over-the-counter medications carefully, especially cold remedies and diet pills. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about drug interactions with midodrine.
