Mupirocin Side Effects
Possible side effects of mupirocin are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Burning and stinging in the infected area
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
Rarely, mupirocin can cause more serious unwanted side effects such as an unusual or allergic reaction. Stop using mupirocin ointment and seek immediate medical help if you develop:
- Skin rash, hives, itching
- Fever
- Swelling
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
The above list may not include all the unwanted effects of mupirocin. Contact your healthcare professional if the side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Mupirocin Overdose: In case of an accidental ingestion of mupirocin, contact your health professionals immediately. You can also call the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
