Mycophenolate Mofetil (Cellcept) Side Effects
Possible side effects of mycophenolate mofetil are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are bothersome or persist after a few days.
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Gas
- Insomnia
- Headache
- Back pain, muscle pain, joint stiffness, or pain
- Tingling, prickling,and burning in the skin
- Swelling of the hands or feet
- Tremors
Rarely, mycophenolate mofetil can cause more serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. Tell your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical care if you develop the following symptoms:
- Persistent or severe stomach pain and diarrhea
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Skin rash, hives, itching
- Dizziness, weakness, low energy, fainting, pale skin, fast heartbeat, shortness of breath
- Unusual bleeding or bruising (blood in vomit, coffee grounds vomit, black tarry stools, blood in urine)
- Unexplained fever, muscle aches, joint stiffness, or pain
The above list may not include all the potential side effects of mycophenolate mofetil. Contact your healthcare professional if your side effects are unusual or severe or do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Mycophenolate mofetil (Cellcept) Overdose: In case of an overdose of mycophenolate mofetil, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, has collapsed, or has had a seizure, call 911. Signs and symptoms of mycophenolate mofetil overdose may include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, chills, cough, fever, sore throat (flu symptoms), and other signs of infection.
