How To Use Nadolol (Corgard)

Nadolol comes in the form of a tablet to take by mouth once per day. You can take this medicine without regard to meals. Try to take the medicine at the same time every day.

Read the prescription label carefully and follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency without consulting your healthcare provider.

Your healthcare provider will start you on a low dose of this antihypertensive drug and slowly increase the dose. Tell your doctor how you feel on nadolol. Monitor blood pressure at home and bring the log to your medical appointments.

If you are taking nadolol to prevent angina attacks, you should know that this medication is for prevention and not treatment of an acute attack. Your doctor will prescribe other medications to treat episodes of chest pain. If you want to stop taking nadolol, talk to your doctor first. Stopping this medicine suddenly can cause worsening angina (chest pain), heart attack, and heart rhythm abnormalities. You will need to slowly reduce the dose of nadolol over 1-2 weeks and avoid physical activity while you come off the medicine.

Nadolol can help to control your blood pressure but will not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well and don’t have any symptoms. Do not discontinue treatment without consulting your health care professional.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of nadolol, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store nadolol at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused nadolol should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw nadolol in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded nadolol is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company. Learn more about proper medication disposal
