Naltrexone Tips from Pharmacists

  • Make sure you have stopped taking all opioid-containing medicines 7-10 days before starting treatment with naltrexone for both opioid and alcohol use disorder.

  • Wear a medical alert bracelet that tells healthcare providers that you are on naltrexone so that they do not give you opioid agonists in an emergency situation. 

  • Talk to your healthcare professional about the risks versus benefits of naltrexone treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
