How To Use Nicoderm CQ
Apply Nicoderm CQ to a clean, dry, non-hairy area of skin, such as your upper chest, upper arm, inner arm, shoulder, back, or the front or back above the waist. Remove it from the packaging and immediately press it onto the skin for 10 seconds to ensure it sticks properly. Save the pouches to dispose of the used patches.
Read the enclosed user’s guide and complete instructions carefully. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand the complete directions on how to use this stop smoking aid.
Wear the patch for 16-24 hours and then replace it. If you have strong nicotine cravings, wear the patch for 24 hours. If the Nicoderm CQ patch causes vivid dreams or other sleep disturbances, remove the patch at bedtime and replace it with a new one in the morning.
Do not leave the patch in place for more than 24 hours. Do not cut the patch as this can affect how the medication is absorbed. Do not apply more than one patch at the same time.
Switch to a different skin site every day to prevent skin irritation from the adhesive tape. If you develop skin problems such as skin redness that persists, talk to your healthcare provider about other types of nicotine replacement products.
After removal, the patch should be disposed of carefully by folding sticky ends together and placing it in the pouch.
After using Step 1 nicotine patches or Step 2 nicotine patches continuously for 6 weeks, switch to the next step (Step 2 or Step 3) to complete treatment. This gradually reduces your dose of nicotine. Talk to your doctor about behavioral support to help you in quitting successfully.
If you are under 18 years of age, ask a doctor before using Nicoderm CQ to quit smoking.
Missed dose: If you forget to change your Nicoderm CQ patch, do it as soon as you remember. You can then change the patch 24 hours later or go back to your regular schedule.
Storage: Store Nicoderm CQ patches at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets. The patches contain enough nicotine to poison children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused or expired Nicoderm CQ patches should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw Nicoderm CQ patches in the trash. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded Nicoderm CQ is through your local waste disposal company or a medicine take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
