Nicoderm CQ Side Effects

Possible side effects of Nicoderm CQ are listed below. Try stepping down to a lower-strength nicotine patch if these side effects are severe. 

  • Minor skin irritation
  • Headache
  • Lightheadedness
  • Insomnia or other sleep disturbances
  • Vivid dreams
  • Stomach upset

Rarely, Nicoderm CQ skin patches can cause more serious side effects. Seek emergency medical help if you develop signs and symptoms such as: 

  • Skin rash, hives, itching (signs of an allergic reaction)
  • Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Irregular heartbeat or palpitations 
  • Chest pain
  • Skin swelling or redness that lasts more than 4 days

The above list may not include all the adverse effects of Nicoderm CQ. Call your doctor if the side effects are unusual or severe or if they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Nicoderm CQ Overdose: In case of a nicotine overdose, contact your doctor immediately. You can also call the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if a person has collapsed, cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, or has had a seizure. Symptoms of a nicotine overdose may include nausea, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, and a rapid heartbeat.
