How should I take Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen)?

Take Norco precisely as directed by your healthcare provider. This medicine is to be taken orally (by mouth) with water. It is usually taken every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. If you are taking Norco on a schedule, take your medication at around the same time every day. 

Follow the directions on your Norco prescription label for the correct dosage and frequency. Do not take more or less medication or take it more or less frequently than prescribed.

Call your doctor if your pain is not controlled on the Norco dosage you have been prescribed. Do not increase your dosage or frequency without talking to your doctor first. Doing so can lead to dependence or a dangerous overdose. 

If you have been taking Norco for several weeks or longer, do not stop taking the medication without talking to your doctor first. Abruptly stopping Norco can lead to unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will probably reduce the dose of Norco gradually.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Norco, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose. Wait at least 4 hours between Norco doses.

Storage: Store Norco at room temperature (between 20°-25°C (68°-77°F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused Norco. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of the medicine is through a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
