Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol Uses

Norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol is used to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to treat moderate acne in females 15 years of age and older who have achieved menarche (started getting their menstrual period) and desire contraception.

There may be other uses of ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate combination. Your healthcare professionals can give you further drug information.

Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol Mechanism of Action

Norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation (preventing the release of the egg from the ovary), causing changes in the cervical mucus to block the movement of sperm, and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

Note that taking oral contraceptives does not prevent chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other sexually transmitted diseases like HIV infection.
