How To Use Ofloxacin

Ofloxacin comes in the form of an oral tablet to be taken by mouth twice a day. Try to take your medicine at around the same times every day and space the doses out by 12 hours.

Read the prescription label carefully and take ofloxacin exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose, dosing frequency, or treatment duration without your doctor’s approval. The number of days for which you need to take ofloxacin depends on the infection being treated.

You will likely start to feel better after taking ofloxacin for a few days. Finish the prescribed course of antibiotics even if you are symptom-free. Do not stop ofloxacin unless your doctor tells you. Stopping treatment too soon may prevent your infection from being completely treated, causing it to come back in the future and become harder to treat. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse after a few days of taking ofloxacin.

Never use leftover antibiotics or someone else’s medicine to treat infections. Antibiotics do not work against viral infections such as the common cold and flu. Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases the risk of antibiotic resistance (infections that are difficult to treat with available antibiotics).

Missed dose: If you forget a dose of ofloxacin, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store ofloxacin tablets at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in their original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired ofloxacin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw ofloxacin in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded ofloxacin is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
