Oxybutynin Chloride ER (DITROPAN XL) Uses

Oxybutynin chloride ER is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder such as frequent urination, urgency to urinate, and urge urinary incontinence episodes (leakage of urine). The extended release (ER) tablet of oxybutynin is also used for bladder control in adults and children 6 years of age and older who have certain nerve disorders like spina bifida that affect bladder muscles.

Oxybutynin Chloride ER (DITROPAN XL) Mechanism of Action

Oxybutynin chloride ER acts on the bladder muscles and relaxes them.  

Oxybutynin Chloride ER (DITROPAN XL) Doses

Oxybutynin chloride ER is available as a 5 mg, 10 mg, and 15 mg tablet (extended release). It is also available as an immediate release tablet. 

The recommended starting dose in adults is 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. The maximum dose should not exceed 30 mg per day. In pediatric patients (children aged 6 years and older), the recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily. The maximum dose should not exceed 20 mg per day in children.
