Oxycodone-Acetaminophen Tips from Pharmacists

  • Before starting pain treatment with acetaminophen oxycodone, tell your provider if you have a history of misuse or abuse of prescription drugs or street drugs.

  • Discuss safer alternative treatment options for your pain with your provider. Doctors usually reserve concomitant prescribing of oxycodone and acetaminophen for severe pain that does not respond to non-opioid medications.

  • Store acetaminophen oxycodone safely out of reach of children. This medication can be fatal if ingested accidentally by a child.

  • Do not share your oxycodone and acetaminophen with others. Take measures to prevent theft and misuse.

  • Talk to your healthcare provider about safe medication disposal of unneeded or expired Percocet through a medicine take-back program.

  • This medication can lead to opioid addiction even when you take it at the recommended doses as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or dosage frequency without your doctor’s approval.

  • Do not stop taking oxycodone and acetaminophen suddenly after taking it for a period of time. This can cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms.
