Permethrin (Elimite) Tips from Pharmacists
Protect your eyes when using permethrin lotion for head lice. If the medicine gets into your eyes, wash with lots of water and seek medical care if eye irritation persists.
People in your household may need to be treated for head lice. Your bed partner or sexual partner should be treated for scabies at the same time. This is necessary to prevent reinfection from an infected person in your household after you’ve been cured.
Pregnant women should consult a healthcare provider before using this medicine. Permethrin is generally considered safe to use when breastfeeding, but it is unclear if the drug passes into breast milk. Your provider may recommend discontinuing nursing temporarily.
