Precautions Before Starting Permethrin (Elimite)
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to permethrin, other lice-killing medications or pyrethrins (Pronto, Licide, A-200, RID), ragweed, any of the active or inactive ingredients in permethrin formulations, or any other drugs. Your pharmacy can give you a list of ingredients.
Give your doctor and pharmacist a complete list of all your medications, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products. This can help avoid possible drug interactions.
Give your doctor a complete medical history. Permethrin may not be safe for people with certain medical conditions such as sensitive skin or skin conditions.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy soon. It is unclear if this medicine passes into human milk. Nursing mothers should check with their healthcare provider before using permethrin.
Precautions During Use of Permethrin (Elimite)
Do not use permethrin more than once or twice as recommended by your doctor. Overuse can cause skin irritation. Call your doctor if you become pregnant.
Permethrin (Elimite) Drug Interactions
Treatment with certain other drugs alongside permethrin can affect how the medicines work. Clinically significant drug interactions can also increase the risk of severe adverse effects.
Give your doctor or pharmacist a complete list of your medications, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements, and herbal remedies.
