Phendimetrazine Tartrate Uses

Phendimetrazine tartrate is used for the short term to help with weight reduction based on a person’s body mass index (BMI). It is prescribed for a few weeks, along with an appropriate weight-reducing regimen (calorie restrictions), for the management of exogenous obesity in people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or higher. It may also be prescribed to overweight individuals (BMI 27 kg/m2 or higher) who have other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or high cholesterol.

Phendimetrazine Tartrate Mechanism of Action

Phendimetrazine tartrate and other such drugs work by decreasing appetite. It is also believed to have central nervous system actions and metabolic effects.

Phendimetrazine Tartrate Doses

Phendimetrazine tartrate is available in 35-mg tablets and 105-mg extended-release capsules. The dose is individualized and can range between 17.5 mg 2 times a day and 70 mg 3 times a day. The usual dose is 35 mg 2-3 times a day, taken one hour before meals. The maximum dose is 2 tablets 3 times a day. Extended-release phendimetrazine tartrate is dosed at 105 mg once before the morning meal. Your doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose of phendimetrazine tartrate.
