Side Effects


Pimecrolimus (Elidel) Side Effects

Possible side effects of pimecrolimus are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if these side effects are severe or persistent.

  • Temporary skin irritation (redness, warmth, stinging, burning, or soreness)
  • Bumps, warts, or other growths on the skin
  • Headache
  • Eye irritation
  • Nosebleeds
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Menstrual cramps

Pimecrolimus can also cause more serious side effects, such as allergic reactions. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you develop the following signs and symptoms:

  • Flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, trouble with swollen glands)
  • Signs of ear infection (ear pain, discharge)
  • Signs of skin infection (oozing, crusting, blistering)
  • Chickenpox or skin blisters
  • Cold sores
  • Signs of a serious allergic reaction (new or worsening skin rash, hives, itching)
  • Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, throat, hands, or feet
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing

Pimecrolimus (Elidel) Overdose: In case someone swallows pimecrolimus, call a doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 or emergency services if a person has collapsed, stopped breathing, had a seizure, or is not responding.
