How To Use Polysaccharide Iron
Poly iron comes in the form of a capsule to take by mouth. Take the polysaccharide iron complex capsule on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for better absorption. However, if this causes stomach upset, take it with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Read the package label of your iron supplement carefully. Take the iron polysaccharide dose as advised by your doctor. Do not take a higher or lower dose or take it more or less often than advised. If you are taking multiple supplements, make sure you do not exceed the recommended daily dose of elemental iron from various sources.
Missed dose: If you forget a dose of polysaccharide iron, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Storage: Store polysaccharide iron at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused polysaccharide iron should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw iron polysaccharide in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded polysaccharide iron is through a drug take-back program.
