Polysaccharide Iron Uses

Polysaccharide iron complex capsules are used to treat iron deficiency anemia. Iron is an important mineral that the body needs to make healthy red blood cells and transport oxygen.

There may be other uses of polysaccharide iron—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Polysaccharide Iron Mechanism of Action

Polysaccharide iron complex is an iron supplement. It is used to prevent or treat iron deficiencies (low levels of serum iron in the body).

Polysaccharide Iron Doses

Polysaccharide iron capsules contain 150 mg of elemental iron. The usual dose is 1-2 capsules once a day. Treatment of iron deficiencies should be under the advice and supervision of a healthcare provider. Polysaccharide iron should not be used as a general dietary supplement. People with severe iron deficiency anemia may need a blood transfusion or intravenous iron to achieve normal iron levels.
