How To Use Polytrim (POLYMYXIN B / TRIMETHOPRIM)

Polytrim is usually applied to the affected eye every 3 hours for 7-10 days. Do not apply this eye drop more than 6 times in 24 hours. Read the prescription label carefully and use Polytrim exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use a higher or lower dose or use this medicine more or less frequently than prescribed.

Before applying ophthalmic solutions such as Polytrim, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the medicine. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye, finger, or any other surface. If you suspect your eye drops have become contaminated, call your doctor or pharmacist.

To use the eye drops, tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to make a pocket. Squeeze one drop of the medicine into this pocket, gently close your eye. Apply gentle pressure on the area with a finger and tilt your head down for a couple of minutes. Replace the dropper in the bottle. Do not rinse or wipe the dropper. Wash your hands after using ophthalmic medications to remove any residual solution. Allow at least 10 minutes between instilling different eye drops.

Missed dose: If you forget a dose of Polytrim, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Polytrim at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired Polytrim should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw Polytrim in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to properly discard expired or unneeded Polytrim is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
