Polytrim (POLYMYXIN B / TRIMETHOPRIM) Tips from Pharmacists
Appropriate therapy with Polytrim is important. Use this medicine for the length of time your doctor tells you. Stopping it too soon can lead to incomplete treatment of your infection, which can make it harder to treat. Prolonged use can increase your risk of new infections.
To avoid contaminating the bottle of Polytrim, wash your hands before using the medicine. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye, fingers, or any other surface.
Do not wear contacts if you have a bacterial eye infection. After your infection clears, discard your old contacts and use a new pair.
After applying the eye drop, place gentle pressure on your eye with a finger to help the medicine get absorbed.
Wait 10 minutes before applying other eye drops.
Do not store Polytrim ophthalmic solution in the fridge or freezer.
Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if you continue to have eye irritation after using these eye drops.
