Polytrim (POLYMYXIN B / TRIMETHOPRIM) Uses

Polytrim is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) and blepharoconjunctivitis (an infection of the membranes that cover the eyeball and the insides and outer parts of the eyelids).

Polytrim (POLYMYXIN B / TRIMETHOPRIM) Mechanism of Action

Polytrim contains two antibiotics that kill bacteria. Polymyxin B weakens the bacteria’s protective outer covering and trimethoprim prevents bacteria from getting nutrition.

Polytrim (POLYMYXIN B / TRIMETHOPRIM) Doses

Polytrim is available as a liquid (ophthalmic solution) for topical administration, i.e., it is instilled directly into the affected eye. The usual dose is 1 drop of Polytrim every 3 hours for 7-10 days, with no more than 6 doses in 24 hours.
