Potassium Citrate ER (Urocit-K) Tips from Pharmacists
Take potassium citrate ER with meals or snacks or within 30 minutes of eating. This will help to reduce gastrointestinal irritation and side effects like stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Avoid lying down for 30 minutes after taking a dose. This will lower the risk of side effects like nausea and upset stomach.
Do not cut, crush, chew, or suck on the extended release tablets. Swallow them whole.
It is normal to see pieces of the tablet in your stool. This does not mean the medicine isn’t working.
Drink plenty of fluids and limit salt intake while on potassium citrate ER.
Keep all your medical and lab appointments during treatment.
Tell your doctor if you develop an irregular heartbeat, dizziness, lightheadedness, or unusual bleeding.
