Prasugrel (Effient) Tips from Pharmacists

  • You can take prasugrel with or without food. If it causes stomach upset, taking the medicine with food might help.

  • Prasugrel increases your risk of bleeding. Seek immediate medical care if you develop severe dizziness, severe headache, or unusual bruising or bleeding (blood in vomit, coughing up blood, bloody urine, or blood in stool).

  • Contact your healthcare provider without delay if you suffer a fall or head trauma. Your doctor will want to evaluate you to make sure you don’t have an intracranial hemorrhage (brain bleed).

  • Take your medication regularly. Do not discontinue prasugrel without talking to your doctor. Doing so can increase your risk of life-threatening blood clot formation.
