How should I take Proscar (finasteride)?

Take Proscar exactly as directed by your healthcare provider or pharmacist. This medicine is taken orally (by mouth) with water once a day, with or without food. 

Follow the directions on your Proscar prescription label for proper use. Take your medicine regularly at around the same time every day. Do not take more Proscar or take it more frequently than prescribed. 

When you take Proscar to treat BPH, it may control your symptoms but not cure the condition. It can take 6 months for you to get the full benefit of this medicine. Continue taking the medication even if you feel well. Do not stop Proscar without talking to your healthcare professional

Missed dose:  If you miss a dose of Proscar, skip the missed dose and take your next dose as scheduled. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Proscar tablets at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store the medication in the bathroom, where it can be exposed to moisture and dampness. Keep all prescription drugs safely out of reach of children.

Unused medicine: Unused Proscar tablets should be disposed of so that children, other people, and pets cannot consume them. Do not flush the tablets down the toilet.
