• Your doctor will likely start you on a low initial dose of ramipril and adjust the dose based on your response. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully and take the medicine as prescribed.

• You can open the ramipril capsules and sprinkle the contents on some applesauce or mix the medicine with half a glass of water or apple juice. You can even pre-prepare this mixture and store it for 48 hours in the refrigerator or 24 hours at room temperature.

• You may feel dizzy while on ramipril, especially when you first start treatment or after a dose escalation. Get up slowly from a sitting or lying position to lower your risk of falls. Tell your doctor right away if you experience severe dizziness or fainting.

• If you are prescribed ramipril for heart failure, you may need to take the first dose in your doctor’s office and stay there for some time for observation. 

• You should know that ramipril may control your blood pressure but will not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking it even if you don’t have symptoms. Do not stop taking the medicine without talking with your healthcare professional.
