How To Use Ranolazine (Ranexa)

Ranolazine comes in the form of extended-release tablets and granules to be taken by mouth twice a day. You can take this medicine with or without food. Try to take your medicine at the same time(s) every day—this will help you remember to take it.

Read the prescription label carefully and take ranolazine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose or dosing frequently without your doctor’s approval.

Your healthcare provider will probably start you on a lower dose of ranolazine and slowly increase the dose if needed.

Do not take ranolazine to treat an angina attack. Your doctor will prescribe other medications for sudden angina attacks.

Ranolazine can help to control chronic angina and reduce angina frequency. It may improve exercise tolerance and exercise duration. But it will not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking ranolazine even if you feel well. Talk to your doctor before discontinuing this medicine.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of ranolazine, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store ranolazine at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F), away from moisture, heat, and direct light, in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused ranolazine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw ranolazine in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded ranolazine is through a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
