Rybelsus Pros and Cons

  • You only need to take Rybelsus once daily.
  • Rybelsus (semaglutide oral) is the only GLP-1 receptor agonist that comes in tablet form (all others need to be injected).
  • You can switch from Rybelsus (semaglutide oral) once daily to Ozempic (semaglutide injection) once weekly.

  • Taking Rybelsus carries a risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially in people who are on other diabetes medications.
  • Rybelsus cannot treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • It is available as a brand name only. There is no low-cost generic currently.
  • Rybelsus use has been linked to an increased risk of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid cancer.
