How To Use Shingrix

Shingrix is injected intramuscularly. The preferred site is the deltoid region of the upper arm. Shingrix is given by a healthcare professional. A copy of the Vaccine Information Statement will be given before each vaccination. Be sure to read this information carefully each time. This sheet may change often. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any queries.

Follow the instructions written on the Shingrix carton on how to take care of your vaccine properly. Do not use Shingrix after the expiration date mentioned on the carton, if the package is torn, or if you notice any signs of tampering.

Shingrix should be reconstituted prior to administration. The normal appearance of powder and suspension should be white powder and opalescent, colorless to pale brownish liquid, respectively. The powder and suspension should be carefully checked for any particulate matter and/or any variation to normal appearance. If either is found, do not reconstitute the vaccine.

Missed dose: If you miss a scheduled dose, talk to your healthcare provider and arrange another visit as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose. If you are not sure what to do, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Storage: Store in a refrigerator at 2° - 8°C (36°- 46°F) in the original package in order to protect it from light. Keep this vaccine out of sight and reach of children. Do not freeze. Discard Shingrix if it has been frozen. After reconstitution, administer Shingrix immediately or store it in a refrigerator; it should be used within 6 hours. Discard the reconstituted vaccine if not used within 6 hours.

Unused medicine: Shingrix cannot be given after the expiration date, which is mentioned on the label and carton. Unused or expired Shingrix should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw Shingrix in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded Shingrix is through a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
