Silodosin (Rapaflo) Uses

Silodosin is used for symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This condition is associated with a non-cancer enlargement of the prostate gland. It causes symptoms such as hesitation, weak stream, dribbling, incomplete emptying of the bladder, pain with urination, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and urinary incontinence.

These symptoms occur due to bladder outlet obstruction (blockage of the bladder neck and pinching of the prostatic urethra by enlarged human prostate tissue). Healthcare providers use the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and maximum urinary flow rate to assess the severity of BPH symptoms and voiding dysfunction.

There may be other uses of silodosin—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further drug information.

Silodosin (Rapaflo) Mechanism of Action

Silodosin works by reducing smooth muscle tone (relaxing the muscles) in the prostate gland and urinary bladder. Decreased smooth muscle contraction provides relief from voiding symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Silodosin (Rapaflo) Doses

Silodosin 8-mg capsule is to be taken once daily by mouth with food.
