Silver Sulfadiazine Tips from Pharmacists

  • Do not apply silver sulfadiazine cream in or near your eyes, nose, or mouth.

  • Wash your hands and avoid contact of bare hands with the burned skin. Use a sterile technique to apply the medicine to prevent bacteria spreading to the treated areas.

  • The burned area should remain covered with the medicine at all times. Reapply Silvadene cream if it rubs off between applications.

  • The treated areas should be left uncovered. Do not apply bandages or dressings unless your doctor advises you to do so.

  • Silver sulfadiazine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Limit sun exposure of the treated areas to prevent sunburn.

  • Do not use this medicine on nursing infants under 2 months of age or premature babies.
